Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 179 awards scholarships each year to applicants 25 years of age or less, currently seeking aviation education such as flight training, A&P certification, etc. The amount and number of grants are determined by our Board of Directors each year, contingent on funding available. These scholarships are funded by a combination of donations and from funds received by the Chapter from its activities throughout the year. The Chapter offers these scholarships: Chapter Scholarships, Advanced Air Academy Scholarships, and Ray Scholarships.
Applications for Chapter and Advanced Air Academy Scholarships are accepted beginning in December of each year, with a deadline for submission in mid-February. Awards are announced in time for presentation at the March meeting of the Chapter. Recipients of Ray Scholarships are identified by Chapter members to youth who are actively engaged in their pursuit of aviation careers.
Chapter Scholarships are awarded to applicants 17-25 years age, for people seeking aviation-related careers. Up to $1,500 may be provided to cover expenses related to flight training, A&P certification, or other activities for applicants intent on entering an aviation-related occupation. See Chapter Scholarships for requirements and application instructions.
Advanced Air Academy Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to youth 16-18 years of age covering full tuition for the EAA Advanced Air Academy in Oshkosh, WI. The Camp is a week long program to introduce youth to the world of aviation. See Advanced Air Academy Scholarships for requirements and application instructions.
This prestigious scholarship is awarded to a youth who demonstrates commitment and readiness to earn their pilot certificate, plus a high probability for success. Ray Scholar requirements are stringent. Recipients must start training within 60 days and complete their pilot certificate within 12 months of receiving the award. Funding up to $10,000 is provided by a combination of Chapter funds and EAA’s Ray Aviation Scholarship Fund. Volunteer involvement in EAA chapter activities is expected.
